They're like chickens, so they lay eggs without mating (which means they have no baby inside) and use them as a protein source. Even chickens peck open and eat their own eggs sometimes.

It's uroboros, it normally depicts eternity and is often used as an alchemical reference. I don't know why though must be something to do with balance
